SQuIGGLE Overview

We still don’t understand the physical mechanisms that ‘quench’ galaxies, transforming them from disky blue star-forming galaxies into quiescent red elliptical galaxies. Post-starburst galaxies– whose stellar populations indicate that they just concluded their major episode of star-formation– provide an ideal laboratory to understand quenching. The SQuIGG$\vec{L}$E sample is composed of massive post-starburst galaxies at $z\sim0.6$. We’re collecting a large set of multi-wavelength data, including ALMA measurements of molecular gas, Gemini/GMOS measurements of stellar kinematics, VLA and Keck/NIRES measurements of obscured star formation, and Hubble Space Telescope imaging.
